A comida

Pinha
Jordania has me eating something 'exotic' every week, and this week was pinha. It has a soft almost banana-y texture and is super sweet.

Last week was Pamonha. It's very common in Northeast Brazil and is sort of like a corn fritter in texture but is very, very sweet. You buy it wrapped in corn husks (...is that what they're called?) but I savagely tore that off before I could take a picture.
While that food is satisfying my belly the Lord is satisfying my heart far more than I imagined. He's given me a heart for Brazil and just like my cute sister Shelby prayed over me, I'm feeling so satisfied here. My parents come in a few days which marks the halfway point and that blows my mind. Time has flown by and even though I so miss my family, friends, and good 'ol Norman the longer I'm here the longer I want to stay.
I've had a verse in this gospel song we sang last Sunday stuck in my head:
I'm reaping the harvest God promised me, taking back what the devil stole from me
And I rejoice today for I shall recover it all
Yes I rejoice today for I shall recover it all
And if you didn't like that you obviously didn't sing it at the top of your lungs clapping your hands with someone in the background yelling "Jesus!" over and over. Grab a friend and try it again.

  5. ah Hailey... what an experience you are having! When your mom asked her blogging pals to pray for you, one of the things I prayed for was that you would see through the eyes of those you are there to bless, and in doing that, your life will never be the same.

Each of these experiences go into the whole 'Hailey package' that God is shaping your life into.

2 of my kids served in Bolivia for a year, so even your fruits and veggies look familiar. :)

ENJOY having your parents there... you come from good stuff!! I'll keep praying for the next part of this journey.

    Hugs!

  7. Stopping by from your mom's blog...which I love. My 16 yr. old daughter just signed up for a mission trip to southern Brazil in April. She will be reading your blog. I would love it if you would go into a little more detail about how you ended up serving there, and if you are with a certain group or what.

    We are super interested.

Have you ever heard of Projecta Vita?

  8. Another fan of your mom's, stopping in to say hello. Hailey, your mom is quite the character. But I guess you already know that. You are blessed!!!

Brazil sounds amazing, and the fruits and vegies look amazing too. We'll be visiting our Compassion kids in Brazil next year, so I'm very interested in your experiences there.

    And now, a blessing:

Father God, bless Hailey and her sweet little household. Thank you for bringing her into the destiny you designed just for her. May many people come to know the love of Jesus because of her faithfulness and love. A great big AMEN!

  17. Hailey, though I'm a little late in getting here, it is so nice to "meet" you! Your Brazilian foods remind me of our years in S America. Especially that fruit with the black seeds which we called "chirimoya" in Bolivia! Isn't it sweet and delicious? Enjoy all the blessings of serving in a foreign country. Thank you for heart to wanting to be used of the Lord to impact lives for now and eternity!

    Blessings to you today!
